Description: Samantha appears to be a mixture of several breeds. Perhaps Aussie and German Shepherd with a little bit of beagle in there. She is a very laid-back dog, especially considering her age. She does like to play with toys, and play 'chase' games with other dogs. She is extremely intelligent, and affectionate with individuals that she trusts. Samantha is great with other dogs, and fine with cats. She does clear 4' fences with ease, so will need to have a 6' privacy fence, or be walked on leash.
Background: Samantha was rescued from the St. Louis City pound the day before she was scheduled to be euthanized. Surprisingly, she had survived several other euthanasia days during the two months she was in the pound; primarily due to her sweet temperament and haunting brown eyes. Sadly, her sister wasn't spared and was destroyed within the first week for shyness.
Prior to her rescue, it is believed that Samantha was allowed to roam the neighborhood, and at one point, was shot with a pellet gun (a pellet was found under her skin). This has led to a fear of gunshots, fireworks and thunderstorms, which she is still working through. She was also physically abused related to housetraining accidents, so she is initially fearful of new friends. However, she is curious and friendly, so it will take just a bit more time and positive experiences to rebuild her confidence with strangers.
Samantha has been fostered by a professional trainer, and she has successfully completed two Shy Dog training classes, and is currently enrolled in a basic obedience class. Contact Tracy Buck directly at tracymbuck@hotmail.com or 314-566-9038 for more information.
