There are other numerous canine rescue groups in the St. Louis area for purebred dogs and mixed breeds. If a Sheltie isn't the right dog for you, maybe one of these groups can help you find a pet. Remember to ALWAYS do your research on a breed to be absolutely sure that is the right breed of dog for your lifestyle!!! If it is a mixed breed, research ALL breeds involved in the mix.

Metro Animal Resource is an all-volunteer organization, founded in February 2000, consisting of people with years of animal-related volunteer experience. Their goal is to reduce the number of euthanasias of cats and dogs in the St. Louis metropolitan area by working both independently and collaboratively with Animal Control, shelters, and rescue groups.

Mutts -n- Stuff
Mutts -n- Stuff, founded in August of 2000, is an all-volunteer organization of foster homes, set up to rescue and find good homes for unfortunate animals. We have foster homes ranging from the Festus area out to the Troy area and work with the Jefferson County, Gasconade, Seven Hills, and St. Charles pounds. We mainly foster puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats; however, we have had a pig, a chicken, and a rabbit also.

We are an IRS certified, 501(c)(3) non-profit charity (so all donations are tax-deductable) and all of our foster homes are licensed by the state of Missouri. Because we are an all-volunteer charity, all donations go directly to helping animals in one way or another.

Our purpose is to promote interest and participation in the rescue, foster, and adoption of animals from area pounds, from owners who are dying or who have died, or who are in need of our help. Basically, we try to match animals in need with good adoptive homes. In addition, we are strong advocates of spaying or neutering your pets. In fact, when funds permit, we provide help for those who can't afford to have their pets spayed or neutered."

Stray Rescue of St. Louis
For the last several years, Stray Rescue of St. Louis has been helping to save abandoned pets from disease, neglect, and death on the streets.  Our organization's founder, Randy Grim, had developed quite a reputation for rescuing and finding homes for stray dogs and cats.  As the number of animals finding their way to Randy's doorstep grew, so did the need for a non-profit organization to support his efforts.  Consequently, Stray Rescue of St. Louis was born.

Stray Rescue's sole purpose is to rescue stray animals in need of medical attention, restore them to health, and place them in loving adoptive homes.

Virtually all of the pets we save have been abused and neglected. They've been dumped on highways, or remote country roads. Abandoned in public parks, empty houses and dark alleys. We've even saved dogs left chained behind buildings after their owners had moved away.

Rescued animals often make the best pets.  Pets from Stray Rescue seem to understand that they have a second lease on life.
